Detroit Recount Halted; Incumbent Mayor Wins

Election officials ended a hand recount in the Detroit mayor’s race after loser Freman Hendrix gave up any hope it would change the outcome.
Hendrix had asked for the new tally of the ballots after losing to Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick by 6 percentage points on Nov. 8.
But Hendrix conceded that the recount, which began Dec. 8 and was expected to continue into January, would not affect the outcome.
