The don is not dead.

Marlon Brando may be dead but his voice will live on, as Electronic Arts Inc. said it planned a video game version of the classic 1972 film “The Godfather” that would use the actor’s voice and likeness.

Electronic Arts confirmed the news Wednesday that Brando did a recording session with game developers before he died in July, which the company will use for his character, Don Vito Corleone.

Actors James Caan, who played Brando’s son and heir apparent Santino “Sonny” Corleone, and Robert Duvall, who played Brando’s adopted son and advisor Tom Hagen, will also lend their voices and likenesses to the game, the Redwood City, Calif., company said.

The game, scheduled for release this fall on most major platforms, puts the player in the role of an aspiring mobster who seeks to rise to the head of a crime family in late-1940s and early-1950s New York.

Electronic Arts is the world’s largest video game publisher and is the company behind games such as “The Sims” and, among the titles in its sports lineup, “Madden Football.”

Last week, the company reported revenue of $1.43 billion in the fiscal third quarter ended Dec. 31, down 3% from $1.48 billion a year ago. Net income fell 4.4% to $375 million, or $1.18 a share, from $392 million, or $1.26, in the same quarter a year earlier.

On Wednesday, shares of Electronic Arts climbed 50 cents to $65.56 on Nasdaq.
