Senate Panel Backs Bill on Class-Action Lawsuits

A bill long sought by businesses to curb class-action lawsuits advanced in the Senate as the Judiciary Committee voted 13 to 5 to send the measure to the floor for expected action next week.
The bill, a key legislative priority of President Bush, would move most large multistate class-action lawsuits into more stringent federal courts.
