NBA scoring leaders -- The NBA Roundup in Tuesday’s Sports section said Vince Carter of the New Jersey Nets became the 41st NBA player to score 10,000 career points. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he was the 264th.

“He was great tonight. He made shots early, he made shots in between and he had a big shot to tie the game on a three-point play. He covered the whole board tonight.”

Carter, who became the 41st NBA player to reach 10,000 points, scored the Nets’ final five points in regulation to force the overtime and he made a franchise-record tying seventh three-point basket early in the extra period to put New Jersey ahead for good.

Carter didn’t know he had reached 10,000 points until the Nets announced it.

“Once I heard it, I said, ‘Let’s win the game now,’ ” said Carter, who has had consecutive 40-point games. “It was a good feeling.”

Kidd recorded his 62nd career triple-double, finishing with 22 points, a season-high 16 assists and 11 rebounds in leading the Nets to their season-best fifth straight win at home.

“I have seen what he can do as an opponent,” Kidd said of Carter. “Now as a teammate, he is everything I thought he could be. The future is very bright once people understand he is back and playing at a very high level.”

The win against a 76er team playing without Allen Iverson (flu) wasn’t easy. New Jersey overcame an eight-point deficit with 5:46 left, and survived a 28-point effort by Iverson’s replacement, Willie Green, who also missed a shot at the buzzer in regulation.

Washington 108, Indiana 104 -- Gilbert Arenas matched his career high with 43 points and the Wizards overcame an eight-point, fourth-quarter deficit to win at Washington.

Antawn Jamison scored 24 points for the Wizards, combining with Arenas for all 19 of Washington’s points in the final eight minutes.

Arenas, 15 for 28 from the field, missed a shot in the lane with the Wizards ahead, 106-104, giving the Pacers a chance to tie or win with less than nine seconds left. But Indiana’s Fred Jones lost the ball, and Juan Dixon made two free throws to seal the Wizards’ victory.

Jermaine O’Neal scored 30 points for the Pacers, and Stephen Jackson had 29 -- 22 in the second half when he made eight of 11 shots and five three-pointers.

Miami 105, Golden 96 -- Shaquille O’Neal scored 27 points and the Heat overcame a ragged performance by Dwyane Wade to win at Miami.

Wade failed to score in the first 18 minutes. He missed several layups and one dunk, committed eight turnovers, drew a technical foul, made five of 18 shots and finished with 18 points, 5.6 below his average. Still, the Heat won for the sixth time in seven games by getting three baskets, two rebounds and a blocked shot from O’Neal during a late 10-3 run.

Mike Dunleavy scored 26 points and Derek Fisher 22 for the Warriors, who lost their 10th straight road game.

New York 102, Utah 99 -- Stephon Marbury scored 30 points, including the Knicks’ last six in overtime, to help New York end a nine-game road losing streak and sweep the season series against the Jazz for the first time since the 1991-92 season.

Andrei Kirilenko had 25 points for Utah but missed two free throws and a pair of three-pointers in overtime that would have tied it.
