Israeli troops shot and killed two armed Palestinians who were approaching a West Bank settlement after dark Tuesday, the Israeli military said.

The military said that the incident occurred next to the settlement of Bracha, near the Palestinian city of Nablus, and that both Palestinians were carrying assault rifles.

The shooting occurred a week after a Middle East summit in which both sides declared a cease-fire.

Palestinian militants said the two were members of an Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade cell from the Balata refugee camp. The cell is financed by Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas, who oppose the truce. Al Aqsa is nominally linked to the mainstream Fatah movement of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

In earlier violence, near the West Bank city of Ramallah, a 15-year-old Palestinian was shot dead and another youth was wounded during a stone-throwing protest. An Israeli military source said the army was not involved in the incident. The wounded youngster said the gunfire came from an Israeli civilian car.
