Attack Victim Has Healthy Baby

A woman who last week fought off and killed an attacker who was apparently trying to steal her fetus gave birth Wednesday to a healthy baby.

Sarah Brady, 26, had a 7-pound, 4-ounce girl.

Brady was attacked Feb. 10 by Katherine Smith, 22, who police said lured Brady to her home with a ruse about a package of baby items.

Police said Smith pulled a knife on the pregnant woman, but Brady fought back, fatally stabbing Smith three times with the weapon.

Before the attack, Smith had lied to family and friends about being pregnant and had been wearing maternity clothes, police said. They found a nursery and surgical items in her home.

No charges were brought against Brady, who police said acted in self-defense.
