Five Killed, 40 Injured in Car Bombing
THAILAND
A powerful car bomb exploded in a busy southern Thailand nightlife district, killing five people and injuring more than 40, officials said.
The bomb was planted in a car parked near the Marina Hotel in Sungai Kolok, a town on the Malaysian border. No one immediately took responsibility.
The attack came as Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was touring the southern provinces of Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani, seeking solutions to end the region’s Muslim militancy. More than 650 people have died in the last year.
