Ford Motor Co. was sued in Massachusetts over claims it installed defective door latches on trucks sold from 1997 to 2000, two law firms said.

The suit, which seeks to represent all owners in the state, claims the latches could cause “unintended door openings” and “passenger ejectment in accidents,” law firms Motley Rice and Thornton & Naumes said.

The suit filed Feb. 15 in state court in Cambridge, Mass., claims that Ford installed the defective latches from 1997 to 2000 on its Ford Expedition, F-150 and F-250 Light-Duty pickup trucks. Ford F-150 Super Crew trucks had defective latches in the 2000 model year, according to the suit.
