Qwest Cleared to Bid on Government Contracts

Qwest Communications International Inc. received approval to continue bidding on future government contracts, 2 1/2 years after federal officials began a review in the wake of an accounting scandal.

The General Services Administration concluded there was no basis for administrative action against Qwest, noting that the company had made management changes and enhanced its disclosure practices.

The decision came as the Denver-based telecommunications company was expected soon to submit a renewed bid for MCI Inc., which last week accepted a $6.7-billion cash-and-stock offer from Verizon Communications Inc.
