Keeping Current With the ‘Old Duffers’

As an alumnus of Margot Reiner’s discussion group from Beverly Hills High a number of years ago, I am pleased to see that she can still rouse students to stimulating discourse (“Gray Matters,” by Idelle Davidson, Feb. 6). I recall that she would start the discussion by stating she was a visitor from outer space and would like to know about whatever was current at the time: U.S. elections, wars in Asia, the economic outlook, etc.

Most of her students were seniors then, as now, but sometimes a college person was in the audience, awed by the knowledge and articulation of the “old duffers.” I wish her the best, as she is one of the good ones.
