An icy reception in Antarctica
Todd DEAN of Corona took this shot on a Christmas Day trip through the Lemaire Channel in the Antarctic Peninsula. The crew threaded the 330-foot Clipper Adventurer past icebergs in the 15-mile-long channel but could not clear the iced-in pass ahead. Temperatures hit 40 degrees, and the usually strong winds subsided for the day. The ship’s small size allowed it to go places bigger ships couldn’t. “It was awesome and inspiring,” Dean says. Clipper Cruise Lines, a specialist in small-ship expeditions, led the tour.
