Evacuees Return After Recycling Plant Fire
- Share via
Thousands of people evacuated because of a magnesium fire at a recycling plant in Anderson were allowed to return home, but the blaze could take days to burn itself out, fire officials said.
The toxic fire erupted at the Advanced Magnesium Alloys Corp. plant Friday afternoon. No injuries were reported, though firefighters did have to flee the interior of the plant after a series of explosions.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency officials conducted air-quality tests and determined that the fire no longer posed a health threat and residents could return home.
