Drug Use on Both Sides in the Iraq War

Share

I am disappointed in The Times’ report about drug use among Iraqi insurgents in Fallouja (Jan. 13). Though I appreciate the new information, it is surprising that the article fails to mention the use of amphetamines in the U.S. military. U.S. pilots are sometimes given amphetamines to prevent fatigue on long missions. The Pentagon has recently indicated that war planners would like soldiers to engage in five-day missions without sleep. It is irresponsible to report that Iraqis fighters are using drugs when some of our very own troops are also “doped up to provide stamina.”
