M-5 Rocket, Bearing Satellite, Blasts Off
From Times Wire Reports
Japan’s M-5 rocket lifted off its launchpad today, carrying a satellite to study black holes and galaxies, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said.
The M-5 was shot into space from Uchinoura, in Kagoshima prefecture 620 miles southwest of Tokyo. It was the first liftoff since the February launch of Japan’s stalwart H-2A rocket.
Aboard the rocket was the Astro-EII satellite, which is equipped with five X-ray telescopes.
