Editor’s note

For many years, the Saturday Opinion page has offered readers both an expanded letters section and a series of short essays by Angelenos under the title “Voices: A Forum for Community Issues.” As of today, however, the page will have the same look and format it has the rest of the week. The change acknowledges what has long been the case: that local opinions, local issues and personal narratives can and should appear on the Opinion page on any day of the week.
