Nation is poorer for its lack of leadership

Your July 19 editorial, “Energy sham redux,” deserves a simple one-word response: Amen! It is truly sad in this nation today that so few in leadership positions are willing or able to lead.
We are entrenched in a needless war in Iraq, experiencing high national and trade deficits, seeing wages for most workers stagnant or growing only very slowly, paying high gas prices because of a series of poor energy decisions and seeing “oxymoron” used as a description for the term “affordable housing.”
Neither these issues nor a host of others seem visible to those in D.C., and the nation is poorer for their neglect.
