David Green took the lead on the second-to-last lap and held off polesitter Clint Bowyer to win the NASCAR Busch Series’ ITT Industries 250 on Saturday at Fountain, Colo.

The ninth Busch win of Green’s career was his first since Oct. 4, 2003 -- a span of 60 races.

“This came at a great time and is a good way to turn things around,” said Green, who started 14th in a Ford. “It was there the whole day, and I knew our car was good. I knew I had him in a lane he didn’t want to be in, and when we got to Turn 3, it was do or die.”

Green and Bowyer had a similar battle at the Federated Auto Parts 300 in Nashville last month when Bowyer got the best of Green. This time around, Bowyer didn’t have the tires to hold off Green.

“I knew he was coming, but I didn’t have any idea he was coming that fast,” said Bowyer, who led 152 of the race’s 250 laps in a Chevrolet.

“I was pushing hard to get away, but I was fading pretty quick. I didn’t do a very good job of keeping up with the track, and it seemed like the track tightened up at the end.”

Green, who won the Busch Series title in 1994, earned $89,846 for the win after finishing 0.572 of a second ahead of Bowyer at Pikes Peak International Raceway.

Kenny Wallace, who led before a late caution juggled the standings, finished third. Series points leader Martin Truex Jr. finished fourth. Truex (3,006 points) leads Bowyer by 202 points.

An accident involving Deborah Renshaw brought out the final caution of the race, and Hornaday led Whitt on the restart.

But Hornaday, who has 27 victories in the series, was forced to slow down in his Chevrolet because of smoke from Jimmy Spencer’s spin. The two trucks touched and Hornaday spun backward in Turn 4 at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Whitt, who started on the pole in a Toyota and led the first 46 laps, finished ahead of David Reutimann, also in a Toyota, winning by 1.442 seconds.

Brendan Gaughan was third in a Dodge and series points leader Dennis Setzer was fourth in a Chevrolet. David Starr, also in a Chevrolet, rounded out the top five. Hornaday ended up 21st.

Kurt Busch will start second in a Ford after turning a lap in 168.533. Mark Martin qualified third in a Ford at 168.383.

Kimi Raikkonen set the pace in qualifying for today’s Formula One German Grand Prix at Hockenheim to gain his fourth pole position of the season.

The McLaren-Mercedes driver has been plagued by engine trouble in recent races, but he dominated the practice sessions and confirmed his status as the favorite by leaving the field far behind in qualifying.

He clocked the fastest lap time of 1 minute 14.320 seconds on the 2.842-mile Hockenheim circuit, giving him his seventh career pole.

Jenson Button also will start from the front of the grid by finishing second in a BAR-Honda in 1:14.759.
