At the Bowl, the three divas

Share

Aerial fireworks at the Hollywood Bowl this weekend will be preceded by some musical pyrotechnics when three of America’s premier singers -- Barbara Cook, Deborah Voigt and Dianne Reeves -- meld their different styles in conductor John Mauceri’s 300th concert with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.

Cook made her Broadway debut as an actress-singer in 1951 and made a successful segue to cabaret and concerts. Operatic dramatic soprano Voigt has been acclaimed at New York’s Metropolitan Opera and elsewhere for her performances of roles by Richard Wagner, Richard Strauss, Verdi and Puccini. Jazz singer Reeves followed up three Grammy-winning CDs with a 2004 Christmas album.

“Great American Concert: Great American Women,” Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N. Highland Ave., Hollywood. 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Sunday. $7 to $37. (323) 850-2000.
