District Gets $200,000 to Fight West Nile Virus
The state has granted Orange County $200,000 to fight mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus, officials said Thursday.
The Orange County Vector Control District will use the money to hire four new field inspectors and buy pesticides, said Michael Hearst, a district spokesman. The new hires will bring the district’s number of inspectors to 70, he said.
Two Californians have died from the virus this year, health officials said. The first was aelderly man in Kings County in Northern California, and the second an 84-year-old Perris man in Riverside County.
