Feedback on China is out of date

Re “Scheer gets it wrong on China,” letters, July 28

Robert Scheer is correct about China, and your readers’ reactions are wrong. I have visited China 13 times and can tell you that the opinions of your letter writers opposed to Scheer’s view of China are about 15 years behind the times! These inaccurate and outdated views that many American people have of China are what is so scary.

First, the view that “people in China continue to starve” is outdated and a bit stale, pardon my pun! I see greater hunger in Los Angeles than I observed in Beijing. It’s interesting to observe this “unprotected workforce” doing so well that most shopping areas are jammed with happy-looking workers/consumers.

What should be of more concern is that America has so much power to start wars anywhere in the world and yet Americans know so little about the real, current state of affairs in so many places.
