Officials Investigate Blaze in High-Rise
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A fire that burned atop an abandoned high-rise and spewed heavy smoke over Sunset Boulevard on Tuesday was the subject of an arson investigation, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fire, at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street, was reported by passersby before 4 p.m., said department spokesman Brian Humphrey. The fire started amid a tangle of rooftop machinery and debris from a renovation project. The high-rise has been vacant since December 2001.
