Scrushy Jury’s Request for Transcript Is Denied

The judge in the corporate fraud trial of former HealthSouth Corp. Chief Executive Richard Scrushy refused to allow the divided jury to hear a trial transcript, and the jury later ended a ninth day of deliberations without a verdict.
In a note to U.S. District Judge Karon Bowdre, the jury in Birmingham, Ala., asked whether it was possible to have a portion of witness testimony read from the court transcript.
Bowdre told them that they would have to rely on their memories of the nearly four months of testimony heard during Scrushy’s trial.
