Sacramento Officer Held in Traffic Death of Boy
An off-duty Sacramento police officer has been arrested on suspicion of hitting with his vehicle and killing a 13-year-old boy who was getting off a school bus, officials said.
Michael Ramirez was struck as he began to cross a street Tuesday afternoon, California Highway Patrol spokesman Jaspar Begay said.
Witnesses saw the vehicle slow after striking the teenager, then speed off, he said.
Jason March was booked into Sacramento County Jail. He has been with the Sacramento Police Department since September 2002, police officials said.
