L.A. film fest adds winners

The Los Angeles Film Festival has announced it will add award-winning films from Sundance and Cannes to its own lineup next week.

A screening of the Sundance Film Festival winner, “Hustle & Flow,” will be held at 7:15 p.m. June 17 at the Directors Guild of America. in Los Angeles. Written and directed by Craig Brewer, the film tells the story of a Memphis street hustler (Terence Howard) who struggles to realize his dream of becoming a respected rap musician.

In addition, the festival will show the Cannes Film Festival’s Grand Prix winner, “Broken Flowers,” written and directed by Jim Jarmusch, starring Bill Murray as a lifelong bachelor who learns he has a son. The film will screen at 7:30 p.m. June 25 at Laemmle’s Sunset 5.

Clips from another film from Cannes, “Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang,” will be featured in a “Storytelling Evening With Shane Black,” at 9:30 p.m. June 24 at the Directors Guild of America. Director Black’s film is a homage to noir films of the ‘40s and ‘50s.

The 10-day festival will run June 16 to 26, offering programs, events, more than 80 feature
