Software maker Macromedia Inc. said in a regulatory filing that it would restate six years of results, reducing earnings for fiscal years 2002 to 2004.

For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2004, the restatements will cut reported earnings by 5 cents a share, cutting profit by about 8%. The company, which is being bought by Adobe Systems Inc., posted a profit of 60 cents a share in 2004.

The restatements also will cut reported earnings by 1 cent a share in 2003 and by 3 cents in 2002, the San Francisco-based company said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
