Deputies Arrest 59 at Parking Lot Gathering
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
After weeks of surveillance of late-night drag racing in a residential area, authorities swept into a Wal-Mart parking lot Saturday night, arresting 59 people on suspicion of trespassing and impounding eight vehicles.
Employees at the Wal-Mart, 1731 E. Avenue J, had complained about racing, drinking and vandalism in the lot, said Sgt. Greg McHenry of the Lancaster sheriff’s station. They had asked people to leave Saturday, but many refused until authorities arrived about 11:45 p.m.
