Railroad May Haul County’s Garbage

Officials scrambling to find a place to dump some of Sonoma County’s garbage think the answer may be the railroad.
The public North Coast Rail Authority, which for years has struggled to revitalize an unused rail line, sees garbage as a steady source of potential revenue. The refuse would be loaded on freight trains and sent to desert landfills.
The concept is preliminary and among many options under consideration for the county’s long-term garbage disposal plan.
