Crews Make Headway Against Wildfire
Firefighters reported progress in containing a 31,600-acre wildfire in the mountains southwest of Las Vegas.
Crews managed to contain about 25% of the Goodsprings Fire, about 10 miles southwest of Las Vegas’ suburbs.
An information officer said fire commanders expected to have about 60% of the blaze contained by nightfall. About 500 people were fighting the fire along with air tankers and helicopters.
In Utah, firefighters battled in hot, windy weather to contain wildfires that forced evacuations and covered the southwest part of the state with a smoky haze.
