Pedophilia Trial Begins Against 66 Adults

French authorities opened a pedophilia trial in the western city of Angers against 66 people charged with offenses against 45 children.
The 39 men and 27 women appeared in a courtroom specially built to hold them all. Some face up to life imprisonment.
Investigators say children ages 6 months to 14 years were raped or sexually abused from 1999 to 2002 by their parents or people close to them who paid with money, food, cigarettes or liquor.
Under French law, none of the children or their parents can be named.
