A charter boat captain was sentenced in Los Angeles federal court Thursday to two months in prison for firing a rifle at sea lions off the coast of Santa Catalina Island last fall.
United States District Judge John F. Walter also ordered John Gary Woodrum, 38, to pay a $5,000 fine, serve one year of probation and perform 250 hours of community service at the Marine Mammal Care Center at Ft. MacArthur in San Pedro.
The Harbor City resident pleaded guilty in January to two misdemeanor counts of attempting to kill California sea lions, a violation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act.
