Officer Who Hit Suspect With Car Is Identified
Authorities Thursday identified the police officer who shot at and then killed a fleeing suspect when he struck and pinned the man beneath his patrol car.
Charles Shinn, 44, a 15-year veteran of the department, has been on paid administrative leave since the Feb. 9 chase that led to the death of Hoang Tan Bui, 30, in Midway City.
Bui had also been shot in the shoulder, Sgt. Bill Collins said.
The incident is under investigation by several agencies, including the Sheriff’s Department and the district attorney’s office.
