Officers Charged With Helping Counterfeiter
From Times Wire Reports
Five veteran New York police officers have been charged with accepting counterfeit Coach handbags and other merchandise as bribes from a street peddler in exchange for tips on pending trademark enforcement, a prosecutor said.
The officers could be sentenced to up to seven years apiece if convicted of receiving bribes, said Manhattan Dist. Atty. Robert Morgenthau. All were suspended without pay.
The peddler, Jamil Faied, 44, was charged with bribery, which also carries a possible seven-year sentence.
