Mother Who Killed Her Baby Ruled Mentally Ill

A mother who repeatedly swung her 7-month-old daughter headfirst into a sidewalk was found not responsible for the baby’s death because she was mentally ill.
Kirsten Vanderlinde, 36, will likely spend years in a psychiatric institution, her attorney said in Buffalo after Erie County Judge Shirley Troutman issued the verdict.
