From Times Wire Reports

On the eve of the first anniversary of the Madrid train bombings, Muslim clerics in Spain issued what they called the world’s first fatwa against Osama bin Laden

The edict, issued by the Islamic Commission of Spain, called the Al Qaeda leader an apostate and urged Muslims to denounce him. The group represents about 70% of the mosques in the country, which has nearly 1 million Muslims.

The train bombings killed 191 people. Militants, who claimed responsibility in videotapes, said they had acted on Al Qaeda’s behalf because of Spain’s troop deployment in Iraq.
