Kevin Crust’s scathing review of the new A&E; series “Intervention” vilifies the show [“Giving Addicts a Jolt of Reality,” March 4]. I don’t take issue with his criticism of the premise; the subject matter is inherently provocative and bound to generate controversy regardless of format. But no one should question the morals or motives of those who have toiled around the clock to document these stories of addiction.
I have worked with co-executive producer Bryn Freedman and most of her staff on another series, and in 25 years of television have never known a more dedicated and compassionate team. Producers by trade, humanitarians by nature, they might as well be social workers, schoolteachers and guidance counselors. And I guarantee there’s not an individual among them who wouldn’t make a substantial sacrifice to see a single addict turn his or her life around.
