Poison control bill scratched

Share

A state Assembly committee killed a bill by Assemblywoman Fran Pavley (D-Agoura Hills) to restrict rodenticides that fatally poisoned the last two cougars that roamed the Simi Hills last year.

The bill would have banned over-the-counter sale of rodenticides containing brodifacoum and bromadiolone, agents that kill rodents as well as predators that consume their poisoned bodies.

Pavley spokesman Nate Solov says chemical company lobbyists prevented the Assembly Agriculture Committee from voting on the bill on April 20. He says the lawmaker will work with local governments to ban the substances.
