Deputy Editorial Page Editor Is Named

Michael Newman, staff editor of the New York Times’ Op-Ed page, has been named deputy editorial page editor of the Los Angeles Times, it was announced Monday.

Newman, 39, will be a member of the editorial board, which determines the editorial page positions of the Los Angeles Times.

“As one of the most talented journalists in the country, Michael is a terrific addition to our team,” said Andres Martinez, editor of the editorial page.

“He is an extremely versatile editor with a deep understanding ... of technology and law, and how the two interact.”

Newman, who worked at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette from 1990 to 1999, succeeds Judy Dugan, who will become a senior editorial writer and remain on the board.
