From Times Wire Reports

A group of Salem schoolgirls, some as young as 12, are being questioned about whether they exchanged sex for methamphetamines, and one has admitted to the swap, police said.

The girls under investigation attend Waldo Middle School, officials said. The school was cooperating in the investigation.

Adults found to be involved could be charged with rape, sex abuse, endangering the welfare of a minor and distributing controlled substances, said police Lt. Bill Kohlmeyer.

He estimated that at least 85% of property crimes in the area were linked to methamphetamines.

“This is not a Waldo Middle School issue. This is a nationwide problem,” he said.
