Men Get Short Shrift in the Fitting Room Too

Share

Regarding “What’s With Women’s Clothing Sizes? Industry Balks at Uniform Standards” (May 1):

Men have size problems also, but very little is heard about them. I refer particularly to short men and their difficulty in finding pants and shirts that fit.

Go to any department store. The men’s clothing section has no pants shorter than a 29-inch inseam. The shirt section features sleeves no shorter than 33 inches. It used to be 32 inches, but several years ago they changed to a size called 32/33, which of course is really a 33 with an additional button to tighten the cuff, rather than shorten the sleeve.

Most stores feature a men’s big-and-tall section. But none cater to men 5-foot-6 or shorter.

There are millions of us who are being discriminated against by having to pay $10 to alter pants and shirts.
