Horrors of War, in Color and Black and White

Share

Please continue to print photos like the one on the L.A. Times front page May 12 of an Iraqi teenager mourning his young brother slain at a market, both covered in blood. All wars are barbarous failures, but an unnecessary war willingly entered into is a crime against humanity everywhere. Let us continue to see what George Bush has wrought.

I’m sick of the gruesome color photos that have become common on The Times front page, and the May 12 picture of a slain Iraqi and his blood-soaked brother is the last straw. Our little girl used to love skipping out in her jammies to retrieve the morning paper. Now that she’s 5 and more aware, I’ve had to end her fun because your photo policy shows no regard for children.

This shouldn’t be, for although photographs are a vital part of journalism, adults can “get the picture” in black and white. I guess the old riddle, “What’s black and white and read all over?” should be changed to “ ... what’s red all over.” Keep it up, and The Times won’t be read in this household much longer.
