San Bernardino County will no longer pursue its lawsuit against a couple accused of stockpiling missile launchers, rockets, and ammunition on their remote Hesperia property.

The county asked Judge Kurt Lewin to dismiss the case against Trudy and Christopher Sherburne on Monday in San Bernardino County Superior Court in Victorville.

“It would have been a very uphill fight. We’re so relieved,” Christopher Sherburne said.

The county had alleged that the Sherburnes violated state unfair business practices law and county zoning codes by storing weapons without permits and in a residential area.

The county asked for a dismissal because officials believed the Sherburnes couldn’t pay a large fine.

Also, the county demolished the couple’s house in 2001 and the Sherburnes have moved to Quartzsite, Ariz.
