Alternative to a State Border Patrol

Share

Re “A State Border Patrol Wouldn’t Be Out of Bounds,” column, May 23: As reported by George Skelton, Assemblyman Ray Haynes (R-Murrieta) has big ideas on border patrol, but where is the math that finances this wild idea of a new California border police? Training, offices, cars, guns, jails, etc. I believe the price tag is $100 million-plus a year, minimum.

If the Legislature worked with the governor to pass a new minimum wage law for illegal immigrants that is $2 or $3 an hour above the current law and would give the illegal immigrants power to sue employers who violated this law, it would solve the problem. This new law must also eliminate current laws against hiring illegal immigrants and allow a year or 18 months for employers to comply and make sure employers are not allowed to terminate illegal immigrants already working.

Employers who hired illegal immigrants after the grace period would be penalized. But no politician would support this. Why? Not because the idea is wild but because a lot of politicians and their buddies use illegal immigrants.
