Trade Union Leaders Held to Prevent Protests

Police detained the entire leadership of Zimbabwe’s trade union umbrella organization to prevent planned protests against worsening economic conditions, union officials said.
News of the arrests came from the trade congress in neighboring South Africa.
The statement said at least 200 arrests had been reported in Harare, the capital.
