FEMA Isn’t Paying Its Ex-Chief Anymore

Former FEMA chief Michael D. Brown is no longer on the agency’s payroll, the Homeland Security Department said, ending about two months of compensation after he resigned under fire.
Brown stepped down as director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Sept. 12 after the sluggish federal response to Hurricane Katrina and questions about his experience managing disasters. His contract was extended by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) said Brown’s contract extension was “inexplicable and a gross waste of taxpayer dollars.”
