Nuclear Talks in China End Without Progress
Six-nation talks on ending North Korea’s nuclear program recessed today with no word of progress toward a settlement, and diplomats promised to meet again but set no date.
The talks began Wednesday in Beijing and had been scheduled to recess today to let diplomats attend an economic conference in South Korea.
The North reportedly demanded that the United States lift sanctions on firms accused of weapons proliferation and drop accusations that Pyongyang counterfeits U.S. currency.
Washington was pressing the North to suspend work at a plutonium-producing reactor.
