Hiker Hurt on Popular Forest Trail Is Rescued
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A 50-year-old hiker in the Angeles National Forest had to be rescued Friday when he injured his knee on the popular Switzer Trail three miles from the nearest road, authorities said.
Fellow hikers went to a nearby ranger station at 4:20 p.m. to report the man’s injury, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Don Hudalla. Because it was becoming dark, sheriff’s deputies could not use a helicopter to rescue the man and had to take him out on a gurney.
Hudalla said the hiker’s identity was not immediately available.
