From Times Wire Reports
A gas explosion at a coal mine in northern China that lacked a required safety license killed 16 miners, the government said.
The explosion occurred Friday at the mine run by Bayinsai Coal Tar Co. Ltd. in Wuhai, a city in the Inner Mongolia region, the official New China News Agency reported, citing local officials.
Three miners were rescued, the agency said. It said the explosion was blamed on trapped gas that seeped from the coal bed.
