Nylander and Jagr Set Up Ranger Win

Michael Nylander had a goal and three assists, and Jaromir Jagr set up three goals to help the New York Rangers turn the tables on the Carolina Hurricanes with a 4-3 victory Saturday to earn a home-and-home split.

Carolina lost for the second time in 13 games and had a five-game road winning streak ended.

The Hurricanes defeated the Rangers, 5-1, Thursday.

Philadelphia 6, Pittsburgh 3 -- Simon Gagne scored his NHL-leading 19th and 20th goals to help the Flyers win at Pittsburgh.

New York Islanders 5, Florida 3 -- Shawn Bates scored two goals at Sunrise, Fla., to help hand the Panthers their 11th consecutive loss.

St. Louis 3, Detroit 2 -- Mike Sillinger and Doug Weight scored in the third period at Detroit and the Blues won their second consecutive game.

Minnesota 4, Nashville 2 -- Kurtis Foster, who was recalled from the AHL on Thursday, scored his first two NHL goals and the host Wild ended a three-game losing streak.

Toronto 5, Atlanta 1 -- Alexei Ponikarovsky had two goals and an assist at Toronto and the Maple Leafs won their season-high fourth in a row.

Ottawa 5, New Jersey 4 -- Mike Fisher scored twice and backup goalie Ray Emery made 25 saves for the host Senators, who are 6-0 on Saturdays.

Buffalo 3, Boston 2 -- Henrik Tallinder scored with 4:21 left at Boston, which has lost five in a row, and the Sabres won their third consecutive game.

Washington 5, Montreal 1 -- Brian Sutherby scored twice and Olaf Kolzig made 43 saves to lead the Capitals at Montreal.

Chicago 4, Edmonton 3 -- Rene Bourque scored twice and backup goalie Craig Anderson made 33 saves to lift the Blackhawks at Edmonton, Canada.

Phoenix 4, San Jose 3 -- Geoff Sanderson scored the deciding goal in a shootout at San Jose, which lost its fifth in a row.

Steve Larmer resigned as player relations director of the NHL Players’ Assn., citing frustration with the organization’s leadership under Ted Saskin.

Larmer posted a resignation letter on a website started by Trent Klatt, an executive committee member who retired as a player two months ago.
