Woman Charged in Death of Newborn

A 19-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of her son, a newborn left to die in a closet, police said.
Pardeep Takhar has also been charged with willful injury to a child. The baby’s Aug. 17 death was ruled a homicide in October.
Jim Malouf, Kern County’s chief deputy coroner, said Monday that the infant died of “failure to thrive due to maternal neglect.”
