From Times Wire Reports

A federal judge in Detroit dismissed a lawsuit aimed at forcing the U.S. government to pay for programs associated with the No Child Left Behind Act.

U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman’s ruling is a defeat for Pontiac schools and districts in Texas and Vermont that had filed suit in April against U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings.

The National Education Assn. -- the nation’s largest teachers union -- had backed the lawsuit and said it would appeal.
